My Journey
Working with plants, people and connecting with land

I was five when I realised that my childhood was quite different to most other children. We moved a lot, wandering the countryside and homes, from boats, to buses and converted barns between Yorkshire and Cornwall

As a child, I loved this life of wandering adventure, the magic, wonder and energy of places, people and plants.

My dad, who's gypsy heritage couldn't hold him in one place for long, and mum, whose creative enterprise kept us from going hungry, taught me about the importance and abundance of nature and intuition.

I left school at 16 and travelled to Ireland from Yorkshire, I've been here ever since. I was engaged at 19 (which didn't last). I lived through my 20's as though I was in my 40’s and had my first child at 27.

I made up for my lost youth (very much made up for it) in my early and mid 30’s. In my late 30’s I decided to settle down and moved here to Baile Mheiriceá into the home of my partner, whose family have lived here for seven generations, I added an 8th and had two more children, both born here in our home.

I worked for 18 years in the community sector with a variety of organisations concerned with communities experiencing racism, discrimination, poverty and inequalities, this work focused in particular on ethnic minority groups, mainly Travellers, asylum seekers and refugees.

In 2013 I took a break from the community sector and began to develop my own business America Village Apothecary, with the aim of connecting people with nature. I became a compounder of spirits and began to connect people to nature through taste, crafting Syrups, Tinctures and Bitters from local plants and botanicals.

During this journey I travelled to the USA to collaborate with the man behind Hendrick's Gin and opened a Tasting Room in Galway City,

In 2020 I changed the direction of my business, in response to the Covid 19 pandemic and based on what I believe are the fundamental priorities of our time and my core values - To connect with nature on a deeper level, to recognise the spirit of nature and to cultivate our own 'true nature' through practice. Only when we do this can we begin to really respect this planet and ALL who live and exist here.

I hope you can join me on this journey.
