Spring - New Beginnings

Spring is here and it feels like I’m emerging from the soil!

Spring heralds such a vibrant strong energy, new adventures, growth and beginnings.

It is so easy to get bogged down in the day to day running of a business, that you can loose sight of the real reason and purpose behind it. The past year has been a little like that for me. There have been so many day to day tasks and challenges that it was hard to focus on creativity.

So, early this year I spent some time thinking about why I started America Village Apothecary and opened the Tasting Room and what we want to achieve I wanted to begin this year with a clear direction and a plan - Simplicity and Clarity.

So here is a little update:

America Village Apothecary is here to promote and connect people with the nature - Through taste and community.

How do we intend to do that? Well, in 2019 by:

PRODUCTION - To strive to continue to make our products better and to explore new techniques for flavour extraction.

WHOLESALE - To look at new and emerging sustainable routes to market, such as the TEAGASC Short Supply Chain Knowledge Innovation Network (SKIN) that we are involved in.

TASTING ROOM - To use the Tasting Room as a vehicle to promote our products, aims and values…

…Let’s talk a little about this one, The past year has seen us open the Tasting Room in Galway and ebb and flow around what the space was - Is it a bar, is it a coffee shop, is it a shop?

The short answer is that it is none of the above. As someone recently pointed out to me we are ‘niche-Iess’ - It was the revelation I needed - I opened the Tasting Room with the intention of using the space to showcase what we do and to be as creative as possible in the process.

So in 2019 the Tasting Room will be open every Thursday - Saturday 1pm - 11pm. When open we will showcase and serve our seasonal ever-changing menu, this year we hope to focus even more on our own drinks, sodas, ferments and vinegars. The rest of the week we will be focusing on using the space for research, production, tours, workshops and events.

TASTING CLUB - We are looking forward to continuing our successful thematic Tasting Clubs with Grapecircus Wines and Bia Botanica. Held on the last Monday of every month 7-9pm. This month our theme is SEEDS.

APOTHECARY WORKSHOPS - We hope to have a number of Workshops for the coming season up on the website within the next few weeks.

And an introduction to the team:

  • Micheál, Amanda and I make the Syrups, Elixirs, Tinctures & Bitters

  • Amanda and I work on research and development

  • Martin is the familiar friendly face that greets everyone in our Tasting Room

  • Victoria and I develop and manage Events & Workshops.

In 2019 we aim to continue to thrive, educate, gather, drink, eat, meet new people and share ideas.

SPRING HAS SPRUNG!
